5 easy ways to earn extra money

Since most Americans spend most of their days in quarantine, CNBC Select describes five ways to earn extra money without leaving your home.

With millions of Americans working outside the office, we currently spend most (if not entirely) at home.

And while some may have more free time than others during quarantine, there are some easy ways to earn extra money if you have a computer and Internet access.

In just a few simple steps, you can find ways to get your money back for the expenses you already make at home. And if you have the opportunity, a practical approach can help you find new sources of income online.

Next, CNBC Select describes five easy ways to earn extra money from the comfort of your sofa - or wherever you are at home.

5 easy ways to earn extra money

1. Use a cash-back credit card for all your spending

For purchases you may already be making - such as groceries, food delivery or video streaming - you can get a refund. This way, you will not leave money on the table.

Repayment credit cards can yield hundreds of dollars a year and thousands of dollars over time, if you use them strategically. For example, Citi® Double Cash Card offers a fixed 2% refund: 1% on all qualifying purchases and an additional 1% after payment of your credit card statement.

2. Move extra cash to a high-yield savings account

With millions of Americans struggling financially amid the coronavirus pandemic, you may not have money to spare. But if you do, or if you receive a second incentive check and don't need to use everything for basic needs, put it in a high-yield savings account.

3. Download and use a browser extension

There is a very easy way to make money looking for what you would normally search for on Google or Bing search engines.

Browser extensions like Qmee can help you earn some extra money by simply downloading them (for free) and searching. It works like this: you enter a query in a browser extension and the search results usually appear in a separate sidebar. Each time you search and click on a result in the sidebar, you receive a certain amount of money. Remember that the reward for a click can amount to cents, but it increases over time.

Remember that many browser extensions can slow down your computer. You can explore the pros and cons before downloading new browsers on tech blogs like How-To Geek.

4. Get paid to take surveys online

If you are interested in sports, new technologies, health and beauty, there is a survey for which you can be paid.

Research is something anyone can do. You are paid to share your opinion about a new product or service. Most sites require you to create a profile about yourself when creating an account so that they can combine you with surveys that match your interests.

Although a certain amount is paid for each survey, your fee may vary depending on the research company. They can pay cash, checks, PayPal, gift cards or rewards.

There are an infinite number of sites that advertise paid search opportunities, so read the site reviews before signing up to know that this is not a scam. Millennial Money's Grant Sabatier listed the most trusted research sites on his site, including Survey Junkie, Swagbucks and Vindale Research.

5. Sell your stuff on Facebook

If you have a Facebook account and there are things you no longer need, sell them on the Facebook Marketplace. The Marketplace is essentially an online store that allows you to take advantage of the Facebook community by collecting products that are sold to you locally or in nearby cities.

In fact, you can price everything you own, from pets and office supplies to toys and games, electronics, clothing and even cars.

What you think is not useful may well be useful to someone else. If you don't have Facebook, you can also sell online on Letgo, Craigslist and Amazon.
